Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:

Did you know that there are more than 7,500 miles of streets in the City of Los Angeles? That's enough roadway to stretch across the continental United States and back! For many years these streets, and streets across the country, were designed to carry large volumes of cars at high speeds, creating conditions that did not support and were often less safe for people riding transit, walking, or biking. At LADOT, much of our work today is focused on redesigning roads to improve safety for everybody, no matter how they choose to…

Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:

Happy New Year!

As we head into 2024, LADOT remains committed to serving the city we love with pride and purpose. Each New Year is an opportunity to set intentions and goals for the year to come, and this year LADOT will also adopt a new strategic plan to guide our continued work to provide safe, convenient, and affordable mobility options for all Angelenos. In just a few years, Los Angeles will host both the World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and our charge is to plan and prepare for these events while…

Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:

As 2023 comes to a close, it is apt to take a moment to reflect on mobility within the City of Los Angeles.

This was a year of progress as we worked to advance the availability, safety, and accessibility of transportation options. In partnership with Metro, LADOT nearly doubled the network of dedicated bus only lanes in Los Angeles along key corridors of Venice Blvd, La Brea, and Sepulveda. We delivered on efforts to improve equity and access to transportation with the largest Universal Basic Mobility program in the…

As we head into the Holiday season, I want to take this moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the General Manager at LADOT, alongside the women and men of this department who dedicate themselves everyday to improving the lives of Angelenos. Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo

This week, LADOT introduces new on-street, paid parking in the Arts District. This change reflects the evolving character of the neighborhood that transitioned over the last decade into one of the most popular Los Angeles destinations with many dining, retail, and nightlife options.

Parking regulations play a key role in supporting the economic and cultural life of a neighborhood. Whether it is rules such as time limits, street sweeping regulations, or permit-only parking, the regulations we implement support local…

Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo

Last weekend, we wrapped up the final Play Streets event of the year in North Hollywood! These events truly embody LADOT's commitment to empower communities, engage residents, and connect neighbors by re-imagining what our City streets can be.

Play Streets is a community-driven program that gives residents the opportunity to transform their streets into a place of joy and gathering. LADOT staff provide the street closures and a "Box of Play", but our local "play experts" -- the neighborhood children and families -- are…

Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo

I am looking forward to spending this Sunday celebrating the final CicLAvia event of 2023! CicLAvia has become an institution in our great city and I look forward to seeing Angelenos enjoy the open streets in SouthLA.

Sunday’s CicLAvia includes the vibrant Los Angeles communities of South Central, Vermont Square, and Leimert Park. I encourage everyone attending to take time to explore neighborhood landmarks like the beautiful Vision Theater and Exposition Park, and to use the opportunity to support local businesses or…

A Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo

Just seven weeks into my tenure as General Manager at LADOT, I was confronted with my first transportation emergency: the I-10 freeway closure. The I-10 carries an estimated 300,000 vehicles per day, and the impact of losing this critical piece of the region's transportation network immediately kicked my transition into high gear as the City worked to address and respond to the closure. Under the leadership of Mayor Karen Bass, supported by an amazingly talented and skilled LADOT team, and working closely with Caltrans, Metro…

City Responds to I-10 Freeway Closure in DTLA

The 10 freeway remains closed between Alameda and the East LA Interchange due to a significant fire that erupted in a pallet yard on E 14th Street near Downtown LA just after midnight on November 11. The fire rapidly spread, engulfing the yard, multiple trailers, and a second pallet yard located beneath the freeway. This closure has already significantly impacted transportation within the City of Los Angeles. In response, LA City Mayor Karen Bass has directed all City departments to develop plans for affected Angelenos and directed…
