Traffic Management
The Los Angeles Department of
Transportation is responsible for managing traffic and congestion
on the City’s 7,200 miles of streets.
A leader in the Los Angeles
transportation network, LADOT aims to make transportation
efficient throughout the City inorder to reach its ultimate
goal of enhancing the City’s quality of life. The Department
of Transportation is currently working to develop a Strategic
Transportation Plan that will address long-term congestion
and traffic concerns.
The Department complements its long-term
traffic management goals with proven traffic management techniques.
LADOT staff alleviates traffic by properly timing
traffic signals so that traffic delay is reduced at signalized
intersections. Special
Traffic Operations engineers also reduce traffic impacts
created by the many special
events the City hosts every year.
The Department of Transportation
is constantly working with other City departments, such as
the Department
of City Planning, and community organizations to understand
traffic route patterns for transportation
planning purposes.
Effective updates of traffic projections
help LADOT better manage traffic. Traffic projections are
also used to help engineers who plan for new
transportation projects in the City of Los Angeles.
