Traffic
Safety
Traffic safety is an important concern on the City of Los
Angeles’ more than 6,499 miles of streets. The Los Angeles
Department of Transportation (LADOT) targets safety traffic
in order to achieve its goal of enhancing the quality of life
in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and
other agencies partner with LADOT to promote traffic safety
and raise safety awareness in the City.
LADOT uses several tactics to address traffic
safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.
The most prominent is the installation of traffic signal because
traffic signals significantly reduce vehicle and pedestrian
accidents. LADOT has also become involved in a traffic camera
enforcement program that specifically targets motorists
who run red lights. The Automated
Photo Red Light Enforcement Program is jointly
administered by the LAPD and LADOT.
LADOT is conscious of traffic safety concerns
in its improvement project processes. Traffic safety is especially
emphasized in the design phase of capital
improvement projects.
