  Transit Services

The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) provides a family of public transit services within the City of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. These transit services complement the bus service of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro) and the other municipal operators in LA County.

DASH

DASH provides local, community-based shuttle bus services to various activity centers (parks, medical facilities, commercial sites, etc.) within a community. Six routes serve the Downtown Los Angeles area and twenty-seven routes serve various communities of the City.

The DASH fare is only 35 cents, with a reduced fare of only 15 cents for seniors (age 65 and over) and individuals with disabilities.

Commuter Express

Commuter Express
buses provide commuter service from various communities in the region to high employment centers during the peak weekday commute hours. Nine routes use the freeway system to connect various suburban communities in the region to the Downtown Los Angeles area, while seven routes connect suburban communities to other high employment areas in the region.

Frequent bus stops can be found throughout the Downtown area and at major transit hubs. Bus stops in residential areas are generally a half-mile apart.

Commuter Express fares are based on distance traveled and range from $1.25 to $3.90 per one-way trip. The fare for seniors (age 65 and older) and individuals with disabilities is one-half the regular rate.

Cityride

Cityride is a transportation assistance program that provides seniors (age 65 and over) and individuals with disabilities in the City of Los Angeles with subsidized transit scrip that can be used to pay for transportation services.

Qualified individuals must register for the program through the mail. Clients may then send $15 plus postage ($6 plus postage for low-income members) to Cityride for $84 in Cityride scrip each quarter. The scrip may be used to purchase Metro Senior or Disabled monthly bus passes, Cityride dial-a-ride trips or taxi services authorized by the City of Los Angeles. Fare value may be used to pay for the full cost of the passes and dial-a-ride trips, but taxi trips are limited to a maximum of $12. The taxi rider must pay all cost over $12 in cash or other acceptable fare media.

Dial-a-ride trips range from $2 to $6 for trips up to twenty miles and must be reserved one day in advance of the trip date. Dial-a-ride trips for medical purposes may be reserved two days in advance.

Metro passes may be purchased at any Metro Customer Service Center, LADOT’s Transit Store and other Metro vendor sites.

Charter Bus

Charter Bus Program is designed to assist community groups, particularly senior, youth and disabled groups, in Los Angeles with free or subsidized Charter Bus services to attend educational, recreational or cultural events in the region.

Groups may request a bus trip through the Council District Office servicing their area. The Mayor’s Office, the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Housing Authority, and other agencies also provide service to designated groups.

Destinations have included beaches, amusement parks, mountain areas, museums, theater, sporting events and other venues.

Metrolink Stations/Transit Hub

LADOT operates and maintains the following five Metrolink stations providing parking for Metrolink and transit riders:

• Chatsworth Metrolink Station – 10046 Old Depot Plaza Road, Chatsworth, CA 91311
• Northridge Metrolink Station – 8775 Wilbur Avenue, Northridge, CA 91324
• Sun Valley Metrolink Station - 8360 San Fernando Road, Sun Valley, CA 91352
• Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station - 12219 Frank Modugno Drive, Sylmar, CA 91342
• Van Nuys Amtrak/Metrolink Station - 7720 Van Nuys Boulevard, Van Nuys, CA 91405

LADOT is a member of a Joint Powers Authority that operates and maintains the Cal State Los Angeles Metrolink Station, 5150 State University Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90032.

LADOT developed and maintains the Warner Center Transit Hub, located on Owensmouth Avenue between Erwin and Oxnard Streets. This transit hub, as well as the Chatsworth and Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Stations, serves as a multi-modal transit terminal and transfer point for bus riders.
