Traffic signals are used to improve safety and facilitate the efficient movement of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians on city streets when appropriate.
If you believe there is a safety or traffic congestion issue in your neighborhood, you can request an investigation through our district offices.
The installation of new or modified traffic signals (e.g. adding a left turn arrow) is determined by LADOT after conducting a traffic engineering assessment.
The major criteria used in our traffic engineering assessment include traffic volume, populations (students, seniors, disabled), pattern of accidents, and road features (e.g. curve and visibility).
If warranted we will recommend installation of a new or modified signal. In some cases we will recommend an alternative solution such as additional stop signs.
