Traffic Control Devices

Traffic control devices include traffic signals and regulatory signage installed to ensure the safe and efficient operation of city streets.

When, where, and how traffic control devices can be installed is governed by federal and state law as adopted in the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Different types of signals and signage are appropriate for different situations.

LADOT conducts traffic engineering assessments in conformance with the MUTCD to determine the best solution for each situation.
