City Adopts Pay to Park Enforcement Policy at New Meters
The Department
is adopting a new parking enforcement policy to accompany the installation of its new Card & Coin Meters. The policy,
called Pay to Park, requires that drivers pay to park at
Card & Coin Meters unless they are legally exempt. If a meter does not accept one
form of payment, the policy states that drivers must use another form or park in a different space to prevent a citation from being issued. The
adoption of the new policy means you may not park at a broken Card & Coin Meter without being subject to a parking citation. Broken Card &
Coin Meters are
programmed to electronically signal their condition to LADOT; drivers may also report meter issues by calling 3-1-1. The meters to which this policy
pertains are being clearly marked with a
red sticker indicating the Park to Pay policy.

City Adopts Recommendations to Reduce Transit Services and Increase Fares
The Mayor and City Council have approved service reductions and fare increases for the Department of Transportation’s
transit programs, including
DASH,
Commuter Express,
Cityride
and Charter Bus. The service changes and fare increases
will become effective August 1, 2010. The DASH fare will rise from $0.25 to $0.35, with an additional increase to $0.50
on July 1, 2011. Commuter Express fares are set to increase by about 25 percent from current rates, and will rise an
additional 15 percent on July 1, 2011. Changes to the City’s transit services were necessary in order to address a
$350-million projected shortfall in the City’s Proposition A transit fund over the next decade. Analysts found that
the fund would face a $23-million shortfall in Fiscal Year 2010-11.
Please visit the Department's transit website for details about
which services will be amended or discontinued: Specific

Report Releases Final Recommended Changes to LADOT Transit Services
The Department released its final recommendations for City transit service reductions and fare increases in an

sent to the City Council. The finalized recommendations, reached after considering public comment,
replace LADOT’s earlier recommendations on a plan to overcome a projected $23-million shortfall in the Department’s
transit services fund in Fiscal Year 2010-11. The shortfall, expected to grow to $350 million over the next decade,
prompted LADOT to recommend a combination of service cuts and fare increases that will affect all transit services
the Department provides. A
summary
of the recommendations, as well as a comparison between preliminary and final
recommendations, is available.

LADOT has begun an analysis of all of its transit services to respond to the significant budget shortfall facing its transit services program.
The analysis will focus on underperforming routes with low ridership as well as services that may be duplicative of services provided by other agencies such as Metro to
determine how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of LADOT’s services and cut its costs.

LADOT Eliminates 'Free Transfers' on Downtown DASH Routes Starting 1 April
The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation will stop issuing transfers
on all six DASH Downtown Los Angeles routes. Due to the City’s financial crisis, LADOT needed to identify strategies to increase revenues in order to minimize potential transit service reductions
to the public. The current low DASH cash fare of 25 cents (10 cents for seniors and persons with disabilities) makes it extremely affordable to ride DASH and will remain the same.
LADOT has recently introduced a new $9.00 monthly DASH pass that allows the holder to make unlimited trips on any DASH Downtown Los Angeles route or any of the other 27 DASH routes throughout the City.
For information on where to purchase the DASH monthly pass, please visit our transit website.
In addition, DASH also accepts LADOT monthly passes and the County-wide EZ transit passes as payment of fare on all DASH services.
