Free Rides on Feb 4 to Mark Transit Equity Day

Free Rides on Feb 4 to Mark Transit Equity Day

This weekend Metro and Metrolink are offering free rides on their systems in recognition of Transit Equity Day.

Transit Equity Day is celebrated on February 4, the birthday of civil rights leader Rosa Parks. In 1955, Parks, a Black woman, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. Her actions led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, considered to be the first mass demonstration against segregation and a landmark moment in the struggle for Civil Rights, ultimately leading to the dismantling of racial segregation on public buses, trains, and trolleys.

Transportation is a civil right; everyone deserves access to safe, reliable, sustainable, and affordable transportation regardless of income, race, gender, or anything else. Other agencies in cities from coast-to-coast are also offering free rides to celebrate and LADOT DASH buses also remain fare-free and available to ride.

Project Update: Reseda Blvd Complete Streets

Project Update: Reseda Blvd Complete Streets

Transformations continue to move forward on the Reseda Blvd Complete Streets Project. Since October of 2020, we have been making improvements along Reseda Blvd between Parthenia St and Victory Blvd with pavement rehabilitation and roadway safety improvements, including:

  • Sidewalk, driveway, and curb ramp repairs
  • Street resurfacing
  • Traffic signal upgrades
  • Bus boarding islands
  • Street trees
  • New continuous protected bicycle lane

Construction is estimated to continue through Summer 2023, according to the schedule below (subject to change due to unforeseen conditions).

Project Update Reseda Blvd Complete Streets2

To date, City of LA crews have completed 100,000 sf of sidewalk repair, 12,000 feet of gutter repair, and constructed 46 curb ramps and 11 accessible loading zones for the project. 11 new bus boarding islands along Reseda Blvd have also been completed.

As we continue to move forward, crews are beginning to upgrade traffic signals on Reseda Blvd. Some of these upgrades include new left turn signals at 8 locations. Adding the protected left turns creates a much safer commute for those walking, biking, and driving. It also reduces the risk of a driver colliding with someone crossing the street. Signal work will continue until the beginning of Summer 2023. You can expect intermittent sidewalk closures and temporary parking restrictions at those work sites.

New LADOT Senior Traffic Supervisors

New LADOT Senior Traffic Supervisors

We would like to celebrate the 28 new leaders that have completed the Senior Traffic Supervisor (Sergeant) Training Class to help to provide leadership and supervision to our Traffic Officers. The course provides an entry-level supervisory module that covers all aspects of entry-level management and processes such as; performance monitoring, time management, evaluation, and deployment. These leaders that have completed the course will go on to be assigned to various positions throughout our Divisions and utilize the skills they've learned. Our traffic officers play a key role in keeping our streets safe and we are grateful to these new leaders for going further to help keep MovingLA Forward.

Drivers Are Reminded Of the Long-Term Closure To Muholland Drive

Long-Term Closure on Muholland Drive

Closures are still in place on Mulholland Drive and along certain residential streets in the Santa Monica Mountains as work continues to clear debris and repair roads damaged during the recent storms. We want to remind drivers that Mulholland Drive has a long-term road closure extending from Laurel Canyon Blvd to Beverly Place to the west of Coldwater Canyon. There are two locations where the soil underneath Mulholland Drive has eroded so as to make passage unsafe for vehicles. As a result, these locations are now closed to all traffic. Commuters are advised to obey traffic officers, use alternate routes and avoid canyon roads wherever possible over the coming days and weeks until repair work is complete.
