Happy New Year! Travel Safely During the LA Rain

Happy New Year! Travel Safely During the LA Rain

Happy new year Los Angeles! We hope your 2023 is off to a good start. With a historic winter storm reaching Los Angeles this week, we wish to remind all Angelenos of the need for safety on LA streets.

Drivers should exercise extreme caution on the roadway, drive slowly with headlights on, and leave extra space between themselves and the vehicles being followed. A vehicle should never attempt to cross a flooded area as a vehicle stall or lose control in as little as 6 inches of water. Wind may cause debris to fall in the roadway and power outages can cause traffic signals to go dark in which case the intersection should be approached as an All-Way Stop. Please follow Traffic Officer instructions at all times.

Pedestrians and bikers should also practice caution as inclement whether can severely limit visibility. If traveling by foot, on bike, or other means, travelers should wear bright reflective clothing so as to be more visible to other road users.

The best way to stay safe during any kind of emergency event is to stay informed. You can sign up to receive emergency alerts to your phone at the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department website.

Final Installation Of Alvarado Bus Lane Completed

Final Installation Of Alvarado Bus Lane Completed

The entire length of bus priority lanes on Alvarado St has been installed. Metro and LADOT partnered to complete the final installation of Alvarado St. bus lanes between the US-101 and Sunset Blvd. The total length of the Alvarado St Bus Priority Lanes Project runs between 7th St and Sunset Bl. and operates on weekdays, southbound from 7-10 am and northbound from 3-7 pm. The final phase of the installation took place from December 7th through December 21st. LADOT removed and restriped the curbside travel lanes, replaced existing signage with new bus lane signage, and installed pavement markings for new bus priority lanes.

With the collaborative efforts between Metro and LADOT, the Bus Speed Engineering Working Group came up with the recommendation for the Alvarado St Bus Priority Lane Project and many other proposals. The working group comes together to identify, design, fund, and construct infrastructure to speed up transit service as part of the NextGen Bus Plan.

Keeping riders safe is our number one priority. We've provided a handout on “Improving Mobility & Safety Along Alvarado St” to help educate the community on the safe use of bus priority lanes. You can find this handout and other project information on the project's website.
