CicLAvia Rolls Through The Valley

Over the weekend thousands of people of all ages and abilities gathered in the Valley for the first CicLAvia of the year. Angelenos took advantage of a break in the winter storm to enjoy walking, riding, or rolling the 5-mile stretch of Sherman Way connecting Canoga Park, Winnetka, and Reseda. Participants were able to discover local gems of places of things to eat, see and do in the area as well as connect with various community organizations.

The next CicLAvia is Sunday, April 16th  connecting Mid City and Pico Union.  Learn more about CicLAvia

LADOT Responds To Storm Damage

This week's inclement weather has left a trail of damage in its path. Our LADOT crews have been deployed across the city responding to damage reports. Over the weekend, roads were blocked off for repairs on Larchmont and Beverly where a utility pole and street sign are down after being hit by a car. Other damages include flooding and mud flowing into the roads. We are very thankful for our crews that are quick to respond and help where ever needed.

  • Anticipate closures and delays.
  • Give yourself enough time to travel and plan alternate routes.
  • Slow down! Roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks can be slippery when wet.
  • Bad weather can cause poor visibility. Use headlights or bike lights, and wear bright-colored clothing.
  • Stay informed! You can sign up to receive urgent notifications about local emergencies from the City of L.A using NotifyLA

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards. Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help educate and instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the city and help provide experience and judgment to help children navigate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.

If you are interested in applying for a crossing guard position you can visit the website for the application and instructions on how to apply.

New HAWK Signals Installed In LA Neighborhoods

Our LADOT crews have been busy bringing new safety treatments to various neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles. Recently we installed new High-intensity Activated Crosswalks or HAWK signals in the Harbor City, Wilmington, and South LA neighborhoods. HAWK signals are used to help pedestrians safely cross busy intersections and can be installed at a lower cost and more quickly than full traffic signals. HAWK signals rest in dark and are only activated when pushed by a pedestrian, flashing yellow lights signal drivers that a pedestrian is waiting to cross and they should slow down, and the red light forces drivers to stop and safely allow those waiting to cross.
