African American Heritage Month Spotlight - NAACP Sign Installation

African American Heritage Month Spotlight - NAACP Sign Installation

At LADOT we believe in place-making and marking our history for future generations. This African American Heritage Month, LADOT joined Mayor Karen Bass and CD15 Councilmember Tim McOsker in unveiling NAACP square near the L.A. branch headquarters of the NAACP with a sign in San Pedro at W 3rd St. & W Mesa St. over the weekend.

The Los Angeles branch of the NAACP was formed in 1914 in the home of Drs. John and Vada Somerville, both graduates of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, and active leaders in the affairs of the Black community. Once established the branch immediately began to address the mounting concerns about racial discrimination and the second-class treatment of African Americans in Los Angeles and California. Today, the branch continues to support the programs and policies of the NAACP with aggressive action at the local level.

New Protected Bike Lanes Installed On White Oak

New Protected Bike Lanes Installed On White Oak

A new bike lane has made its way to White Oak. Our LADOT crews were out on White Oak Ave adding a new protected bike lane from Victory to Vanowen.

New Protected Bike Lanes Installed On White Oak 2

Protected bike lanes keep riders safe by using plastic bollards to physically separate the bike lane from drivers creating a much safer and more comfortable ride for riders and reducing the risk and fear of collisions with motor vehicles. To install, LADOT took the opportunity of street resurfacing along White Oak Ave by Streets LA to upgrade the bike lane by adding a buffer zone and bollards. This allowed us to preserve travel lanes while adding the lane at little extra cost. Looking forward to seeing you riding on White Oak!.
