Wilmington Safe Streets Celebration and Bike Ride

Wilmington Safe Streets Celebration and Bike Ride

This weekend residents joined us on Anaheim Street for a slow-paced bike ride to celebrate the new street design in Wilmington. During this ride through the neighborhood, participants learned of the many improvements that have come to the area as well as some of the new improvements that are on its way. Since 2017, LADOT has installed safety improvements on 2.2 miles of Anaheim St, between Figueroa St and Henry Ford Ave. Currently, the city is using temporary materials as a "quick-build" version of many of the safety improvements planned for Anaheim St, including:

  • New bike lanes
  • New center turn lanes
  • Protected Intersections

Those who joined also enjoyed free food, music, kids' activities, bike safety training, and more.

African American Heritage Month Spotlight - DASH Leimert Park

African American Heritage Month Spotlight - DASH Leimert Park

In celebration of African American Heritage Month, this week we are spotlighting Leimert Park. The neighborhood was established in 1928 and The Leimert Park Village is historically known as a cultural mecca of African American art and holds great historical significance. Since the 1980’s The park has been a go-to community space for the African American community hosting art walks, a regular drum circle, annual celebrations, rallies, protests, and memorials. You can take the DASH Leimert Park/Slauson to the neighborhood and visit the area and experience the vivid culture.
