Los Angeles Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the 38th Annual Kingdom Day Parade

This week Los Angeles held the 38th annual Kingdom Day parade in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This parade is the largest and longest-running MLK Day celebration in the nation and made possible thanks to the work of LADOT Traffic Officers and Special Traffic Operations personnel working alongside community members, civic leaders, and city residents. Thousands turned out to celebrate and honor the life of the civil rights leader and activist. The 3-mile parade was stretches from Martin Luther King Blvd to Crenshaw and Leimert Park with LADOT playing a crucial role in securing the route and intersections to ensure a successful parade.

We want to thank the participants from various organizations, programs, and schools in LAUSD who support us in this effort as well as congratulate this year's Grand Marshal, George C. Fatheree III, the attorney who helped secure the return of Bruce’s Beach to its rightful owners. This was also the first year the parade was held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day since 2020.

A Special Thank You To Our LADOT Traffic Officers For Ensuring Safety During Stormy Weather

A Special Thank You To Our LADOT Traffic Officers For Ensuring Safety During Stormy Weather

LADOT would like to give a special thank you to our traffic officers for working around the clock to ensure residents traveled safely during the inclement weather in Los Angeles. We are so grateful that they’ve been on the front lines to help navigate road closures, and crowded roads throughout the city.

Drivers Are Reminded Of the Long-Term Closure To Muholland Drive

Drivers Are Reminded Of the Long-Term Closure To Muholland Drive

Closures are still underway in LA as many roads are being cleared and repaired from debris. We want to remind drivers that Mulholland Drive has a long-term road closure extending from Laurel Canyon Blvd to Beverly Place to the west of Coldwater Canyon. We know that two sharp drop-offs of the soil underneath Mulholland Drive at critical junctures will take some time to be restored causing the extended closure. Commuters are advised to obey traffic officers, use alternate routes and avoid canyon roads wherever possible over the coming days and weeks. Traffic officers alongside Special Traffic Operations and partner agencies continue to respond to emergency events throughout the city.

In December of last year, LADOT celebrated the opening of its Advanced Transportation Systems and Coordination (ATSAC) center. ATSAC is a system that controls all of the traffic signals in the City. Originally created for the 1984 Olympic Games, the purpose of ATSAC was to assist with the flow of crowds and traffic during the summer games. This new launch of ATSAC will prepare the city for the 2028 Olympic Games.
